Eco Sewing 101 - Add Pockets to Your Clothing

A big part of learning how to sew is perfecting the art of modifying clothing that you already have.  Have that dress that you love, but want to give it a little extra "oomph"? How about adding some pockets to give it that extra rizz.

This workshop will teach you how to take a piece of clothing that you already own, whether that be a skirt, dress, or shorts, and add pockets to them.  This is upcycling in its finest, and will leave you with a finished project that is both functional and fantastic, all at once. 

The workshop will begin with you learning how to cut pockets, proper materials to use, the proper pattern to utilize when deciding the size of your pockets, and how to insert them into an already completed piece of apparel. 

PLEASE READ - WHAT TO BRING TO CLASS: 

• Your success in any sewing project largely relies on choosing the appropriate fabric for your project. 
• Be sure to bring several pieces of clothing in which you'd like to add pockets.  You may be able to finish 3-5 projects within the time allotted for the workshop. 
• While this is an upcycling sewing workshop, please only bring clothing made from the following type of fabrics to learn:
  • Cottons
  • Thick Poly-cotton blends
• Please DO NOT bring knits, sateen, stretch fabrics, silks, satins, jersey, or denim.  The machines will be set up to accommodate standard cotton or cotton blend materials, only.  These are the best fabrics on which you can learn effectively.  
• All other materials are provided in the cost of the workshop. 

Each workshop is approximately 2-2.5 hours long.

MANDATORY PRE-REQUISITE:  
To join us for this workshop, you must have taken our Intro to the Sewing Machine workshop, or have knowledge on how to properly thread a machine AND spool a bobbin on your own.  Experience sewing accessories is a plus, but is not required.  

NO NEED TO BRING YOUR MACHINE!  In all bee creative workshops, you'll use our Brother sewing machines to complete your wares (we love our Brother RLS590 and XL2600i machines.... Great starter machines for all).

HALF-OFF WORKSHOP POLICY: Half-price workshops are final sale. No credits or transfers for missing a workshop, no exceptions. If you are unable to attend, you may transfer your registration to another attendee for your original registered session date and workshop, only.
