Sewing 102: The Layerable Flowy Tank

Hey, you CAN sew.  Once you've made your first successful item on the sewing machine, you'll be ready to tackle it all.  While folks think that sewing with knit woven fabric is hard, we're going to show you just how easy it is on a standard machine. 

In this workshop, you'll learn to sew your own comfy, flowy tank top; perfect to wear alone, or layer under a cardigan or shirt during those cool ATL days.  You'll love making this shirt so much that we promise you'll have a closet full of them (quickly).  

While simple sewing knowledge is helpful in this class, both beginners - who have taken the Intro to the Sewing Machine workshop with us, or have prior sewing knowledge - and advanced sewers are welcome.  We'll begin by using a standard tank top you love at home as a basic pattern for your lovely layering tank top.  You'll learn how to sew properly on knit, which stitches to use, the proper needle to use, create edge finishing from your existing fabric, and how to finish your incredible tank with an easy hem.  Because this is not an Intro to the Sewing Machine class, each attendee must know how to spool a bobbin and properly thread a machine.  

WHAT TO BRING TO THE WORKSHOP:
All attendees must bring 1 yard of fabric for their skirt. A jersey (cotton) knit is preferable for this workshop (recommendation: use a flat jersey sheet to save on the cost of knit fabric, or go to Fine Fabrics - with several locations in Atlanta, GA - to save on cotton jersey knits).  While 2-way stretch fabric is great, 4-way is even better (but not necessary for this project). 

NOTE: PLEASE DO NOT CONFUSE JERSEY KNIT WITH SWIMSUIT OR OTHER POLYESTER BLEND MATERIALS.  PLEASE ASK FOR ASSISTANCE WHEN PURCHASING YOUR FABRIC, IF NECESSARY. All other materials are provided in the cost of the workshop. 

NO NEED TO BRING YOUR MACHINE!  In all bee creative workshops, you'll use our Brother sewing machines to complete your wares (we love our Brother machines.... Great starter machines for all).
