We call this workshop a twofer: you'll be making a dress and learning how to make a circle skirt at the same time.  Now, that's a winning combination, folks.  It's our humble opinion that any time of the year is the right time to rock a t-shirt dress, and making one that fits your frame perfectly is the cherry on top.

In order to create a perfect fit, we're going to make this dress from a t-shirt that you will bring along with you.  Whether it's well worn and comfy or brand spanking new, short sleeved, or long sleeved, you can't go wrong with the shirt you'll bring.  we do recommend that it is a woman-cut shirt style that is not too big and boxy, so we may attach the bottom skirt portion you're going to wear for a truly comfortable and cute fit.

If you're a beginning sewer, you're not going to believe how easy it is to make a dress.  We promise it's easily possible. And we're going to show you all the tips on how to do it quickly and effectively.

In this 2.5-hour workshop, you'll learn how to pattern a dress from scratch using a t-shirt of your own and 2 yards of knit fabric (we recommend going to Fine Fabrics, where you can get great knits for under $9 a yard).  We'll pattern the dress to your liking: Knee-length?  No problem.  Mini?  You got it.

By the end of the workshop, you'll go home with a beautiful, flowing, comfortable t-shirt dress that is sure to become your new favorite.

MANDATORY PRE-REQUISITE TO ATTEND THIS WORKSHOP:  To join us for this workshop, you must have taken our Intro to the Sewing Machine workshop, or have knowledge on how to properly thread a machine AND spool a bobbin, as well as navigate a sewing machine.  Experience sewing knits is a plus, but not required.

NO NEED TO BRING YOUR MACHINE!  In all bee creative workshops, you'll use our Brother sewing machines to complete your wares (we love our Brother RLS590 and XL2600i machines.... Great starter machines for all).

WHAT TO BRING TO CLASS:

  • 2 yards of knit poly or knit jersey fabric (this will get you a KNEE LENGTH OR TEA LENGTH dress if average height). You may want to use an old jersey sheet (if you own one) to practice on during the workshop when making this dress. Make sure your fabric is a (non see-through) jersey or cotton knit.
  • A women's cut t-shirt

All other supplies will be provided in the cost of the workshop.

IMPORTANT NOTE:BECAUSE NO FUNDAMENTAL SEWING WILL BE TAUGHT IN THIS COURSE, WE WILL EXCUSE ANY STUDENTS WHO DO NOT KNOW HOW TO NAVIGATE AN ENTRY-LEVEL MACHINE DURING THE WORKSHOP.  THESE STUDENTS WILL BE INVITED TO RETURN FOR A FUTURE WORKSHOP DATE ONCE THEY ARE ABLE TO RE-THREAD A MACHINE AND SPOOL A BOBBIN ON THEIR OWN.  TO ENSURE THE QUALITY AND ENJOYMENT OF THE WORKSHOP FOR ALL, WE WILL ADHERE TO THIS RULE WITH NO EXCEPTIONS.

IF YOU HAVE NEVER USED A MACHINE BEFORE AND FEEL YOU NEED EXTRA ASSISTANCE WITH THE ABOVE TASKS, WE RECOMMEND YOU TAKE OUR INTRO TO THE SEWING MACHINE WORKSHOP.
