This ain't your grannie's tie die!

Shibori is an ancient Japanese dyeing technique that involves dying natural fibers that have been folded, bunched, and bound with a naturally occurring dark blue powder, indigo. The binding allows the material to create a natural resist pattern that is at the same time beautiful and unexpected.  In short, it's all about the pattern.

In this workshop, you will learn variations of the Shibori binding method, and instead of using indigo dye (which typically takes several hours to set, dye, and rinse), we will use deep colored water-based dyes on light fabrics and bleach to create reverse shibori patterns on dark materials. After lots of practice, at the end of each workshop you will go home with several tea towels and two tote bags adorned with your new design.  If you have a natural item (cotton, canvas or denim) that you would like to dye, feel free to bring it along.  Ap
proximately 3 hours long.  All materials included.
