I’ve been sewing since I was nine years old – along with drawing and painting. Creating visual art of all types is what I’ve always wanted to do. Following this passion led me to study Industrial Design at Georgia Tech where I had exposure to all facets of design in the corporate world – product, furniture, manufacturing, advertising and graphic design. Graphic design was a natural for me – taking a blank page and adding photos, logos, typography and color to create an inviting composition to convey ideas. My quest for even more creative expression was fulfilled by studying oil painting in the technique of the Old Masters for over ten years. This is where I learned the classical lessons of color theory and composition.
Yet through all of my corporate career sewing remained my one true love. After raising two wonderful children and retiring from the graphic design world I joined a group of sewing enthusiasts who created many beautiful quilts for charity. I was hooked! I fell in love with the geometric patterns and beautifully colored fabric combinations. I sewed all types of quilting patterns to start, but was really drawn to the clean lines and bold graphic elements of contemporary quilting. It was then that I discovered I was a “Modern Quilter”.
