Sewing 102: The Easy Everyday Kaftan Dress

This is THAT dress. That springtime, summertime, easy flowing, beautifully draped dress where everyone compliments you for your style. Easy wear, at its very best. 

This is a dress that is so easy to make, you'll make many, many more - with variations on a theme - in no time. 

This dress pattern is inspired by a design on www.rivaldiva.com. Check out her site for more great DIY inspiration.  

While simple sewing knowledge is helpful in this class, beginners and advanced sewers are welcome.  Patterns and step-by-step guides will be on-hand, and your instructor will be there to walk you through individual steps if you need advanced guidance.  Because this is not an Intro to the Sewing Machine class, each attendee MUST know how to spool a bobbin and properly thread a machine.  So sorry, no exceptions. 

MATERIALS NEEDED FOR CLASS: 

• All attendees must bring 2.5-3 yards of fabric for their dress. This dress is meant to be approximately knee length, or shorter if hemmed. This is a pattern that is so versatile that it can be made shorter (into a casual top) or longer (into a maxi dress). 
  
  
• For all level sewers, please be sure to bring an easily draped fabric, like rayon, knit, knit blend, lightweight jersey, polyester or polyester blend. For ease of the workshop, we recommend you DO NOT bring chiffon, silks, satins or stretch fabrics, especially if you are a novice sewer who has not worked with these fabrics before.  Lighter weight (think no sweater), but not see-through, is the goal in your fabric choice here.  Be sure to get 54" wide fabric, if possible. 
  
  
• All other materials are provided in the cost of the workshop. 
  
  
• No machine? No problem.  We have our Brother sewing machines on hand where you'll make your fabulous creation.
