Did you know there is more than one way to solder jewelry? While we use a torch and fire in most of our other Simple Soldering workshops, you can also create beautiful, distinctive jewelry using the torch's sister, the soldering iron.
Tinning is the process of heating and sealing a copper wire to a base, in this case, glass, and then using solder, flux, and a soldering iron to seal it all together. The outcome - and your technique to make a frame thick or thin - determines whether your jewelry will be sleek and modern, or hearty and rustic.... Either way, the possibilities are endless.
In this 2 hour workshop, you'll learn the fundamentals of how to create pressed glass jewelry, and will walk away with a finished pressed botanical necklace, and an additional necklace of either botanicals, photos, or other prints.
WHAT TO BRING: While we'll supply plenty of beautiful dried botanicals and images for you to use, feel free to bring in magazine clippings, photographs, maps or phrases to work with once the initial instruction is complete. The time allotted will allow you to make several pendants, so feel free to express your creativity. All additional tools and supplies will be provided.
We'll be working with cut glass sized 1x3 inches and 1x1 inches, but will have glass cutters on-hand for additional instruction.
