Hey, you CAN sew. Once you've made your first successful item on the sewing machine, you'll be ready to tackle it all. In this workshop, you'll learn to sew a simple circle skirt that will be your fall and chilly weather go-to.
Utilizing a circle skirt pattern, a little math, a 2.5" - 3" piece of elastic, a fabulously patterned piece of material, one of our in-store Brother sewing machines, and one hour's time, you'll walk away with a super fun circle skirt, all while asking yourself why you haven't made 50 of these before.
While simple sewing knowledge is helpful in this class, beginners and advanced sewers are welcome. Patterns and step-by-step guides will be on-hand, and your instructor will be there to walk you through individual steps if you need advanced guidance. Because this is not an Intro to the Sewing Machine class, each attendee must know how to spool a bobbin and properly thread a machine.
MATERIALS NEEDED FOR CLASS:
All attendees must bring 2-3 yards of fabric for their skirt (make it 4 yards if you plan to have it knee length or lower. If your skirt is below knee length, you'll need to piecemeal the skirt by connecting 4 pieces to create your circle, versus having one cut that makes a full circle.
**We strongly recommend planning on creating a skirt knee length or shorter if it is your first time making a circle skirt). If you are bringing African/Ankara fabric, you will HAVE to piece the skirt together based on its short width, versus making the true circle process. To ensure you learn this process, be sure to bring a wider fabric (your fabric store can help you with this).
If you are bringing a fabric that has prints that MUST go in one direction (think ice cream cones that must all face upward), you will have to piecemeal your skirt in order to keep the design facing one way. If you are a novice sewer, feel free to bring a pattern, but make sure it does not have a directed pattern.
For all level sewers, please be sure to bring cotton, broadcloth, quilting cotton, or some other form of cotton woven fabric (no knits) to ensure success in the workshop (no satins, silks, rayon, or any other "slick" or smooth fabric, as this is a beginner workshop. However, once you have the pattern down, you'll be able to make skirts out of any fabric you please).
To ensure that you have enough yardage to meet your length needs for your skirt, be sure to select fabric that is AT LEAST 55" in width (the fabric store will guide you to fabrics that have wider cuts). All other materials are provided in the cost of the workshop.
No need to bring your machine! All Brother sewing machines provided by us.
